Starting this blog: what Nami Smart LLC does

We have opened the Nami Smart LLC engineering blog. We plan to write about the decisions we make while building, and about how the products we actually run are put together, in as much detail as we can.

What kind of company this is

We are a small team building software that costs little to run and does not break easily. We work mostly with Cloudflare Workers, D1 and Pages, and we are good at architectures that serve the whole world without a monthly server bill.

We currently run two products.

• Rakuteam, a multi-tenant SaaS for running a sports club
• arukutomaru, a cross-border shop with no fixed costs

Underneath both sits d1zzle, the database library we wrote for ourselves and published as open source.

The decisions we hold to

1. Carry no fixed costs. A product whose monthly revenue is still unknown should not be given a monthly infrastructure bill up front. Lean on usage-based platforms and a month with no sales costs close to nothing.

2. Run types across the boundaries. Types run from the database schema through the API to the front end, so the mismatch you would otherwise find after deploying fails the build instead.

3. Write decisions down. We record the options we rejected and why, not only the one we chose, as ADRs. That is for the people who come later, and it is also the most efficient handover you can give an AI coding agent.

What we will write about

We expect to cover architectures that lean on Cloudflare, what working with D1 is actually like, and how to arrange a repository when AI agents are part of the team.
